What the SEO competitor analysis compares

An organic competitor is a domain that appears in Google for the same keywords. It may be a competing business, but it can also be a trade site, platform or comparison page.

How organic competitors are identified

01You enter your domain.
02We look up which domains appear on the same keywords as you.
03You get your organic competitors and a head-to-head with the biggest one.

What the comparison gives you

Per part: what it is, and what you get out of it. The competitors are measured, not asked for: they are the domains that appear in Google on your keywords.

Who your real competitors are

The domains that appear on the same keywords as you. There is often a platform or comparison site in there you would never have named yourself.

How many keywords you share with each

The overlap per domain, which is what ranks the field: who stands in the same space as you, and who only brushes against your edge.

Their average position

How high each domain sits on average across the keywords you share. Heavy overlap with a weak average position tells a very different story from light overlap with a strong one.

The head-to-head with the biggest

Up to sixty keywords you both rank for, with both positions side by side. Sorted by search volume, not by your best terms: otherwise the comparison is stacked in your own favor.

Your win rate

How often you rank above your biggest rival on the keywords where you meet. That share is this scan’s score, so it is an outcome rather than an estimate.

Where you beat them

The highest-volume keywords where you rank higher. That is the kind of page that works for you, so the pattern worth building on.

Where they stay ahead

More of these than of the previous, on purpose: this is where the work is. Every keyword with both positions, so you can see whether it is one place or ten.

What does not count

YouTube, Wikipedia and the social networks are filtered out before anything is ranked. A marketplace can stand in the field, that is real information, but it never becomes your head-to-head rival.

Who appears on the same keywords

grote-webshop.be1,240 shared keywords
vergelijker.be860 shared keywords
lokale-concurrent.be540 shared keywords
fietsketen.be410 shared keywords
nieuwkomer.be260 shared keywords

Platforms that turn up on almost every query - YouTube, Wikipedia, the social networks - are filtered out. A marketplace stays in the field, but never becomes your head-to-head rival.

The field, ordered by overlap. The one at the top is not necessarily the strongest: it is the domain that appears on the most of your keywords. The head-to-head is made with your biggest real rival; we skip a marketplace at the top for that.

Questions about organic competitors

How do you know who my competitor is?

We do not ask, we measure it. Whoever appears in Google for the same keywords as you is your competitor in the search results. That is a different list from the businesses you would name in your own market, and that change is exactly what makes it useful.

There is a business in there that is not my competitor at all.

That happens, and it means something. A trade publication, a comparison site or a marketplace can rank for your keywords without taking your customers. Still, they occupy the spot you want, so it pays to see what they do on that page.

What do I do with the comparison?

Start with keywords where the change is small and check whether the page matches the search intent well. A bigger position gap can point to different content, a different page type or stronger competitive signals. The scan does not determine which single adjustment will resolve the change.

How often should I check this again?

Once a quarter is enough: your competitive field shifts more slowly than your rankings. If you would rather not track it yourself, a subscription keeps the comparison up to date and lets you know when someone overtakes you.
